An officer fired in June from the Fort Wayne Police Department for theft and improper conduct has filed a lawsuit in Allen Superior Court, hoping to force the city to reinstate him.

The board voted to terminate Chapman Monday at a special session. In March 2025, Chapman paid an older, mentally ill man $20 for seven guns found to be worth $4,500 when the man told Chapman six times he wanted the guns destroyed.
