Two years ago in February, northeastern Indiana woke up to the shocking news that one of its most highly respected criminal defense attorneys had been killed at her home in Grabill. When the probable cause affidavit surfaced, there was even more shock that Marcia Linsky’s boyfriend of a year, Charles Calvert, was accused and charged with stabbing her in the neck several times, nearly severing her right thumb, and cutting up her lip.

After a four day trial, an Allen County Jail convicted Sanders of murder - acting in concert, attempted murder for the wounding of the younger brother of the deceased BMG gang member, battery, and a Level 5 felony criminal gang activity. The homicide took place Sept. 12, 2023 at 1:50 a.m.

You have “two tough dogs squaring up and eventually they’re going to fight. They’re trying to be the biggest badass dog in town,” Deshaies said on the stand. In court testimony, Deshaies identified Sanders, now 20, as a member of the BSG, aka Big Swen Gang, named after a deceased member. 

On the night of Feb. 19, 2023, Brandon Golden and Daisha “Twink” Fitts walked out of the Fraternal Order of Eagles casino on Bluffton Road at 11:23 p.m., got into Golden’s van and left happy, pulling out on to Winchester Road Six minutes later, Golden was frantically speeding back into the casino parking lot, his friend Daisha, a beloved local barber, dying between the passenger and the back seat after she was shot in an ambush at Winchester and Airport Expressway.

The state says Haywood, 32, and Devonte Travier, almost 31, acted in concert that night and ambushed Golden’s minivan at the intersection of Winchester Road and the Airport Expressway, killing Daisha “Twink” Fitts in error and missing their target, Golden, altogether.

The stabbing Jan. 4 of this year around 7:30 p.m. sparked outrage and further fear among some residents that it just isn’t safe to go downtown. What happened was a drama in the local homeless community on display through video, testimony and evidence this week in Allen Superior Court.
