Gang involvement is hush-hush at this murder trial. Reading through the probable cause, there are no rap lyrics that tie Dionee White, 23, to the 2024 homicides of Adaija “Daisy” Okey and Lamarion “LD” Bailey. 

Morning testimony featured FWPD officers, detectives and two young women, best friends, who were hanging around with the wrong crowd in September 2023. Their testimony was pivotal. S.C. was the girl with the car, a black Chevy Cruze. That night, she lent it to Terrance Sanders Jr. because he kept asking her for it, she said.

Responding officers and EMS found the younger brother crying over his dead brother, cradling him in his arms, according to the probable cause affidavit submitted by homicide detective Aaron Johnson. Detectives plumbed social media and found rap videos tying Recht, now 21, to the homicides. Words like “All that dissing he was doing, they ain’t think we was going to get him back, front yard Boogie, more through the mail you gonna get it back.”

Jalan Carpenter was found guilty of murder in Allen Superior Court Thursday after a three day trial. The jury believed that Carpenter, now 22, waited for John Peterson, 19, a signed basketball player for Manchester University, in the area of Vance and Reed on March 26, 2021 and ambushed Peterson at 10:28 p.m. that night.

Carpenter wasn’t charged with murder until exactly a year ago when prosecutors were able to put together missing pieces of the puzzle. An incarcerated witness came forward to report that he had played dice with some people who talked about the murder and were responsible for it.
