Mistrial declared in child molest case

ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. ---A mistrial was declared in Allen Superior Court Thursday morning (June 12) due to jury misconduct, according to the defense attorney.

Angel Maldonado Vizcaino, 48, is back at the Allen County Jail after a juror was found to have researched the defendant on the internet, Maldonado’s attorney, Robert Scremin, reported to The Probable Cause.
Allen Superior Court Judge David Zent scheduled a hearing for a new trial date for Tuesday, June 17, Scremin said.
In July 2024, Maldonaldo-Vizcaino was charged with Felony 1 child molesting-statutory rape, two Level 4 felonies for child molesting with a child under 14 and Level 5 sexual misconduct.
The alleged crimes date to June 2018, according to court documents.
The defendant also has a hold for ICE - Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, according to the Allen County Sheriff's website.
Deputy prosecutors Christina Gull and Emily Snyder are representing the state on this case.
